Unfortunately with the current restrictions and density limits spectators or anyone not directly involved in the show cannot attend our show. We apologise to those who wished to come and meet breeders, but unfortunately we cannot accommodate you at this time. We hope to meet you at a future event when restrictions have further eased.

With restrictions in Victoria limiting us to outside events of up to 10 people, and the threat of Covid-19 still present, we are keeping all events small and only for our current financial members for the time being with strict RSVP, until otherwise advised by the State Government and Dogs Victoria.

We know this may be frustrating to members of the public at this time, but we appreciate your understanding, and will advise you when public events are once again available.

 

❗❗IMPORTANT NOTICE – MEMBER EVENT CANCELLATIONS (April 2020)❗❗

Dear Members,

I hope you are all well and coping with our current, stressful times.

With the Covid-19 pandemic gripping the nation, a leisurely stroll with our beloved Bernese is exactly what is needed – however per the information below sent from our Governing Body, Dogs Victoria, we have been advised to cancel all upcoming events of large gatherings until we receive further advice in April. Sadly our walk scheduled for March in Mt Evelyn is definitely cancelled, however we will hopefully reschedule this for a later date as it is a lovely venue and walk. We apologise for the late notice.

As many would have seen on our Facebook page the Dog Lovers Show in May has been moved to November. Our events for April onwards will all be advised either by email and/or social media if they are going ahead or changed.

We encourage you in the meantime to interact on the BMDCV Members Forum – show us what you’ve been getting up to with your gorgeous dogs! Go for a walk somewhere you feel safe in a large, open space and post pics of your adventures.

In stressful times like these we should reach out where we can and we encourage you to do so with each other or the members of the committee.

Please follow all government and health department directives, but make sure you are practicing self care and taking time for yourself, your loved ones, and your pets.

Hopefully with the current measures being put in place we can all work together as a nation to stop the spread of this disease and get back to our normal routines as soon as possible.

All committee members contact details were listed in our last newsletter if you wish to reach out to us. Thanks Lynney for doing such a great job by the way!

Hopefully we will all see each other again very soon.

JUNE WALK — Merri Creek Wetlands, Coburg

“Ramble” – A walk taken for pleasure in the countryside…

Get your warm clothes out and come for a ramble with us!

Jill has found a great new location for us to explore and we can’t wait to share it with you.

The meeting point is the car park of Coburg Basketball Stadium – 25 Outlook Rd, Coburg (off Murray Rd).

From there we will ramble along the creek crossing over the bridge and ramble back again. Lots of off-lead romping to be done in perfect Bernese weather.

Make sure you wear sturdy shoes as this is mostly dirt paths

FEBRUARY WALK — Ricketts Point

Sunday, 17 February 2019 from 17:30

Please join us this Sunday for an evening swim and BBQ at Ricketts Point – Kaos and Zuri’s favourite beach.
The beach is off lead and plenty of room for a romp or lazy swim.
The free BBQ’s are located in a nice grassed area only 50m from the water.
The beach car park is the city side of the Ricketts Point Teahouse – parking is about $6 per hour or you can park on the road and in the side streets for free.

OCTOBER WALK — Wantirna

Where: Norton’s Park, Wantirna
When: Sunday October 7th at 10:30am

There’s plenty of parking off Norton’s Lane which runs of High Street Road. More details will be provided soon.

Local farmers on the opposite side of the road heading toward the freeway provide lovely fresh produce for purchase to also get the most our of your trip.

SEPTEMBER: * ROYAL MELBOURNE SHOW — Bernese being judged on Wednesday Sept 26th ONLY *

Royal Melbourne Show day tomorrow!

Bernese will be judged from approx. 10am, likely in one of the outdoor rings, and this may take up to 1.5 hours with an entry of 56.

We suggest that if trying to meet breeders and exhibitors you allow them some time after judging has been completed to get themselves and their dogs settled.

In the meantime you can always visit the lovely volunteers at our breed stand located in the dogs pavillion.

Please note that exhibitors may be packing up between 4:30-5:00pm and will no longer be on site after this time.

Please be prepared for delays tomorrow as the dogs pavillion can be quite crowded.

 

SEPTEMBER WALK – Coburg Lake

Where: Meeting point is the Car Park on Lake Gr just off Gaffney St.

Looks like there are a few road closures around the city for Father s Day so we have moved locations.

Has your Berner been struggling to think of somewhere to take Dad this Fathers Day? We have solved your problem – you’re welcome!

Please join us as we venture north of the city to Coburg. In the shadows of Pentridge Prison is the beautiful Coburg Lake Reserve.

The reserve has wheelchair and pram friendly walking tracks along a stream, a childrens playground and lots of BBQ facilities.

As usual we have a shorter walk option for puppies and our older dogs.

Bring along some nibbles and join us for a morning tea afterwards.

Please note – this is an on-lead walk.

A big thanks to Jill for hosting this walk as Dave and I will be enjoying some sunshine in Florida.

Meet at the car park in Deep Rock Road off Yarra Bend Road.

A beautiful walk through the park including a big off-leash area for a
frolic before we wander down to the teahouse for fresh scones with jam

2018 Bernese Friends Worldwide Walk — Williamstown

We are really excited to be organising a walk again the year on behalf of Bernese Friends Worldwide.

We will be walking on Saturday so we dont upset your Mothers Day plans. 🙂

We have lots of yummy treats for the dogs, a free raffle and we get to enjoy coffee and icecream from one of the famous local cafes.

I will also be again doing our Breeders Group photos so make sure you encourage all your buddies and puppy owners to come along to get this very special memento of the day.

This month’s walk sees us venture to the beautiful Banksia Park in Bulleen.

Puppies and older dogs always welcome as we there is a huge off lead area where they can have as much exercise as their little or older legs like.

SEPTEMBER WALK – Mt Evelyn (Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail) – Sat Sept 23rd

Spring has sprung so please join us on Saturday for a beautiful walk down a small portion of the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail.

The Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail is an iconic 40 km recreation trail for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The trail follows the path of the historical railway line through the stunning Yarra Valley starting behind Lilydale Railway Station and finishing in the Warburton township. We will start and end at the Happy Trails Café. A shorter walk will be available for puppies and older Berners.

The café offers a lovely selection of homemade food and locally-sourced items including art. The have an outdoor, dog-friendly area out the front for food and coffee, and a playground and stables out the back.

Please note there will be no off-lead walking and please stick to the left of the trail as cyclists and horses use this trail – please stay alert and watch out for horse poop!

Please join us at the café for a bite to eat or a drink after the walk. I recommend bringing extra water bowls, though water will be available for our dogs.

**Bernese Friends Worldwide Melbourne Walk 2017**

Get your walking shoes on …this one is not to be missed!

This year a Melbourne Bernese Friends Worldwide Walk will be held on Sunday 23rd April starting at 10am at Darebin Parklands in Alphington, Melbourne, Australia.

The walk is being hosted on behalf of Bernese Friends Worldwide by Tracey (some of you may know her as the co-ordinator of the monthly walks for the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Vic).

The last Melbourne walk hosted by the BMDCV was held in Kew and attracted over 75 Bernese in terrible conditions (think rain and hail!) This year we have all our fingers and toes crossed for better weather and have an absolutely stunning venue for you to enjoy.

Darebin Parklands is 33 hectares of beautiful green open space along a winding creek with big lagoons for the dogs to go swimming. Join us afterwards for a picnic in the park where we will have some super cool doggy merchandise for sale, free giveaways and something super special – Professional Photographers who will be capturing the day for us.

The event is open to all owners of Bernese Mountain Dogs and their buddies.

 

BMDCV Members will be in attendance, so if you are not currently a member of the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Vic, we have an awesome offer for you – Join up prior to, or on the day of the walk and not only will you get a free gift, you will also get next years membership included! JAN/FEB MONTHLY WALK (Feb 5th) – BOTANIC GARDENS

Once again it looks like we are going to have great weather for our 1st Club Walk of 2017.

Please join us at Melbourne’s beautiful Botanic Gardens on Sunday 5th February at 10am for a stroll and morning tea. Humph and Zuri did a tour today (01/02) and have mapped our route including a stop near the coffee shop where we will have some morning tea – either buy or bring your own.
There is a big grassed area for relaxing and socialising (on lead) and I have some yummy healthy treats for the pups.

We will meet at Gate H – refer map. There is plenty of parking and it is free on Sunday.

All club walks will be advertised here, or on our club FB page, and in our Berner Newsletter.
